How To Make Chess Worse

You know the feeling. Hours already spent struggling through the chaos & confusion & complexity of a fully-fought chess game - and then, the nightmare gets worse. Your eyes blear & blur. Your head to start to spin. You stare blinkingly at the board - and the pieces start to wobble.

But now - designer Adin Mumma has created a weeble-esque chess set that will do all the wobbling for you:

"Motion is added to an otherwise still game," the website says. "A concave landscape stabilizes freely quivering chess pieces, creating a lively interaction between board and pieces."

Any other ideas for making chess worse? Who knows, it might earn you some money: the Wobble Chess Set sells at $265 a pop...

It looks like chess on the ocean waves! Anchors aweigh me hearties! The designer should be made to walk the plank - just looking at it gives me a headache.

An 'otherwise still game'?? What a load of bollocks. One can only assume that the set's designer is not a chess player or at least, not a very serious one; the chessboard is the most violent, and giddy-making terrain known to man as it is, without artificial movement being thrown into the mix. No doubt those behind the wobble board also think that it would be a good idea to play footie with four goalposts and a beachball.

Ah, the old 'Mr O'Reilly Chess Set' again, eh? So they left a perfectly decent consignment of wooden boards out in the rain and they warped, and now they're trying to flog them as if they are some clever new design. Don't be fooled by the cowboys...
